A small bird calls in the middle of the night
asking if I could spare any crumbs.
My response is that the crumbs are mine
but he may purchase them for a sum.
The little bird stares while sitting there
with trembling eyes, a sorrowful reply,
“I have neither trinket, treasure, nor dime
to afford such victuals of this kind,
but I do have a song and a talent to go along
which makes love follow every note that is rung.”
But I was unmoved and would have this no longer
doing nothing to save the bird of his hunger,
because love is nothing more than a word
to a man who won’t spare a crumb for a bird.

A poem I had to write for part of my biology project (30% of the overall grade) inspired in part by Mr. Regular.
I wade through a sea
Not of water, but grass
Flowing, rolling, above my waist
Brown
I stumble through a maze
Not made by man, but nature
trees hindering my path
Brown
I stand on the shores of Floyd’s namesake
Not majestic
Not noble
